We now have a Naturopathic Doctor as part of The Mind Body Clinic team.
As you may have seen on our Instagram and website recently, we are welcoming Dr. Amanda Satov, ND into The Body Mind Clinic. Here is a little more about who she is and how she can help you.
I am so excited to be joining Emmanuelle as part of The Body Mind Clinic! I graduated with my doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine in 2016, and am so looking forward to becoming a part of this community and beginning to help others in service of my life’s purpose.
I’ll start my story with how I came to find Naturopathic medicine as my calling. Growing up in Toronto, my family always found ways to get out of the city and connect with nature. Canoe trips to Algonquin park were a consistent part of my childhood and adolescence, fostering my appreciation and love for the beauty found just outside of this wonderful city. I found home in the lakes and trees of Ontario’s vast provincial parks. Always the first one in and last one out of the water, I realized from a young age the power of the elements. Fast forward to university, where I attended Dalhousie in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I obtained my degree in psychology to deepen my knowledge and interest in the complexities of the mind and human behaviour. After my four year undergraduate, I knew it was time for me to get out and see the world. I worked hard to save up for a four month trip backpacking through South East Asia. New places, new people and new foods opened something in me. Seeing how big the world really is, made me feel small. And gave me a profound lesson in realizing that despite our culture, geography and language, people truly are all the same at the core of it.
Upon returning home I was now faced with the millennial dilemma of too many options of what to do with my life. I knew I wanted to be in a field that worked with helping people through the journey of life, but I wasn’t quite sure what that looked like yet. After much exploration I happened upon the website of my alma matter the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). I decided to check it out. I went not quite knowing what to expect, and was overcome with a resounding message that this was the place I needed to be. A year later, I was enrolled and starting on what would be one of the most transformative experiences of my life.
I arrived on the first day of school nervous about embarking on this journey. The smiles and faces around me reassured what I had heard a year earlier; this was the place I needed to be. The four year program was intense, enlightening, eye-opening and so much more. I met some of my favourite people during this time, as we went through the rigor of medical school together and bonded us in a way only life changing experiences can. Amidst my education on plants and ancient healing methods and the miraculous intricacies of the human body, I ended up being surprised by the lessons I learned about myself. That being a healer and helping others on this journey is what I have been called to do. As the light within myself was woken up, I knew I could do the same for others. I learned that anything is possible, and that I am here to remind others of that power.
After graduation, I took off to do an internship at a Naturopathic retreat centre in Hawaii to learn more about the way this medicine can be used in a holistic in-patient setting. I was inspired by the beautiful healing foods and the commitment of my patients to take the time out of the daily grind to improve their lives. Bringing these lessons home with me, I eventually found myself at The Body Mind Clinic having that same feeling of knowing this was where I needed to be to pursue my passion for guiding others towards their best health. I can’t wait to see you there!
